“I won’t die in an accident or die in the disease; I will go down in glory.”
-Major Sudhir Kumar Walia
These were our Indian soldiers who fought day and night fearlessly guarding our borders while we sleep peacefully. What makes them an Indian Army Soldiers? Their sheer desire, dedication, discipline, and love for the nation. Their life was never a bed of roses from training to being martyrdom.
Today my blog will talk about the main event, Passing Out Parade, being held at Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. It is similar to a graduation at College.
As my maternal uncle, Major General Yadvinder Singh Mahiwal is the deputy commandant of IMA Dehradun; we got the privilege to attend the 136th regular course passing out parade.
Not so familiar with strict and a disciplinary background as that of an army man, I will try my best to describe the exalted day. The night before the Passing out parade we were invited for light and sound show at IMA Dehradun. The show depicts how a cadet transforms into an Officer and how our very own Indian Military Academy gave us soldiers the whole country is so proud of.
Passing Out Parade was a never to be missed event. On 13th June 2015 around 6:30 am all the seats were occupied to witness the great parade. The audience included Officers, guardians, immediate family of the officers, and parents of the cadets who will soon be Officers of Indian Army. The Chief of Naval Staff Admiral RK Dhowan was the Reviewing Officer at the Parade.
The two hour program at Chetwode Building started with parade by gentlemen cadets syncing each step with the other as if being programmed to do so. The program included the Parade inspection which later ended with 3 helicopters (One hosted Indian Nation Flag, second hosted the Indian Army flag and third hosted the Indian Military Academy Flag) pouring rose petals on the cadets depicting that the inspection went well :
The young Officers resonated the army song “Kadam Kadam badhaye ja” and the Indian National Anthem. 616 Gentlemen Cadets remembered all their glorious moments at the institute, the rigorous trainings, their hard work, determination and their sheer joy of being a part of Indian Army.
Keeping alive the glorious tradition of providing excellent officers, Indian Military Academy stands upright like a father to a proud nation.
